Qld: Inquest hears firework exploded without warning

The organiser of a school fete has told an inquest he was almost knocked to the ground
when a fatal fireworks display exploded without warning.

Eleven-year-old DOMINIQUE BLAXENDELL was killed by metal shrapnel from the blast at
the Holy Spirit Catholic primary school at Bray Park in Brisbane's north.

Fete organiser GEOFFREY FOLEY has told coroner MICHAEL HALLIDAY he was more than 40
metres from the display when he was struck by a powerful shock wave.

The inquest has been told a faulty Roman candle firework exploded with the force of
four sticks of gelignite on May 20 last year.
