Each year the 'Dubai Desert Rock' festival gives one lucky rock band in the region the opportunity to play as the opening act at a festival attended by hundreds and thousands of screaming music fans. The 'Shamal Battle of the Bands' was created in 2005 to help to promote local acts, but now this opportunity of a lifetime has been made even more appealing for budding rock stars seeking fame. From this year onwards, the winning band chosen to play at the upcoming 'Dubai Desert Rock' (planned for March 2009) will also be given the chance to play at a German music festival called 'With Full Force' (scheduled for July 2009). The once regional battle of the bands has matured into an international 'United We Rock' competition, and all potential bands considering entering have to do is log on and apply online.
HOW TO BECOME A ROCKSTAR
>> Unsigned rock bands from Germany
and the Middle East must download and fill in the application form from the official web site (www.unitedwerockbattle.com) and submit all that is required, before October 31 2008, to their country's festival organisers. For the Dubai Desert Rock Festival the organisers are Center Stage Management.
>> The finalists' biographies, photographs, videos and original songs will be uploaded online for visitors to then elect the opening act to perform at both festivals.
>> Flights and accommodation in Dubai and Germany will be covered by the organisers - subject to visa approvals.
